Mens Health

I chose men's health as the magazine to hold my advert because it appeals to younger men who are working on their bodies. or are interested in their health.
Their statement: www.mens-health-magazine.co.uk/‎
The target audience for Men’s Health is men aged 18-30 who' want to achieve a good body and want advice on certain topics. The first gratification is the need to be informed and educated, as this is a fitness and health magazine men want to be informed on all of the ways to achieve great fitness and health and then they want to be educated by getting the knowledge and the strategy to do this.
I think that think that mens health magazine is designed to inspire and that fits my sdverts theme. The magazine is also filled with content which makes it quite packed so my advert should stand out among the others. I think being a very visual magazine it is designed to enforce ideas and morals which is the same goal as my advert to present a lifestyle that suits people.

My favourite TV comedy is Family Guy. This is a cartoon sitcom made in America. The audience it appeals to is the adolescent to adult age group. The humour is satirical  and off beat. It is based around a seemingly normal family in an ordinary neighbourhood. Celebrities are featured and frequently referred to in a mocking way often relating to current events or affairs in the media. The series uses wit to raise political and social issues facing society and can be harsh and cutting. It has been criticised for being too 'blue' and offensive but I think the humour is clever in how it brings a variety of subjects to a wide audience.

Family Guy is my favourite TV comedy. It appeals to an adult and adolescent age group the humour relates to current affairs typical family scenarios and life in a residential neighbourhood.

next Advert

This is Sex Pistols Etat Libre d’Orange. This fragrance is represented very differently in comaparison to my other choices. This fragrance is centred around rebellion and their primary source of promotion is the celebrity endorsement. During the 1970s the band was incredibly popular and it sold itself by being a rebellious group that encouraged anarchy. The Sex pistols were very against the Establishment and were not very serious. The poster used to promote this fragrance has the queen’s head being defaced which reinforces the fact that the sex pistols are rebellious and because the text covers her mouth like a gag it could be showing that they don’t want to hear her and that the cover on her eyes shows that she is blind. This type of outlandish behaviour would have been totally unacceptable in the 1920s around Mavis Vivaudou showing that fragrances adapt and change over time. This particular fragrance is said not too smell that nice and instead smells like leather are pepper all tinted with citrus. This is not a very normal smell for a fragrance and keeps it to a theme. The fragrance is like a revolution in a bottle as it was a turning point and when

what I have done so far

A Comparison of how women are represented in Perfume advertising in 1920s, 1970s and 2011

I have decided to compare the difference in representation in three advertisements. Firstly  Mavis Vivaudou (Print 1920s) Secondly Sex Pistols Etat Libre d`Orange (1970s Print) and Finally J’ador Fashion Show Dior (Moving image 2011)

My first advertisement is this MAVIS VIVAUDO print launched in the 1920s. I can see that the women in the shot is supposed to be a beautiful women of that era, with her peacock like fashion and all her finery. She is looking into a mirror and pouting. This shows vanity and arrogance as well as confidence which would have inspired women to by it. However as an alternative This could suggest that she wants to know what she would look like to a man. This represents the view towards women of those days as having to be good enough for a man instead of just being beautiful. The Text in the tagline says ‘IRRESISTIBLE!’ which conveys the point that women who wear it will be irresistible, and a man will have to love them.
The shape of the bottle is slender and it looks expensive which represents how the woman looks as well, through this you can see that that this woman is quite wealthy and has obviously inherited wealth which made her of a higher class. This would make her more attractive to a man as when you inherit wealth it raises your status.
Through her posture and gesture it is clear that she is very proud and pleased with herself. The curvature of the back and her upright posture show that she is of the upper class, presenting this perfume as an expensive indulgence for the upper class. Her movements are very extravagant and pronounced which shows her as quite powerful, which is something that a lot of women wanted in those day.
There is a mess on the floor in this print which suggests that the woman is wite careless and more obsessed with her makeup than anything else. This is quite subjective in comparison to my other two advertisement as in enforces a stereotype that all women care about is their looks and their not much good at anything else.
The contrast between the dark black background and the vibrant colours of the woman’s clothing and perfume could be trying to show that the perfume is profound and fine. It could also show that it is noticeable and makes you something more vibrant and colourful. It could also show that you would stand out to someone. For instance a potential partner.
